January 26, 2021 – Governor Hogan Press Conference

  • Starting February 1st, we will expand Phase 1 eligibility for some severely immunocompromised Marylanders, such as those receiving chemotherapy and those with certain immune disorders who require frequent medical care. Those individuals will be eligible to receive vaccinations through their hospital-based providers.
  • There are now roughly 100 providers online across the state, and residents can go to covidvax.maryland.gov to find a provider in your area.
  • Maryland is only allocated roughly 10,000 doses per day for the 2 million people in Phase 1.
  • To date, providers in Maryland have administered 396,661 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 75.9% of first doses.
  • To complete Phase 1: 4 million doses are needed, 667,278 received (16.68%)
  • To vaccinate all Marylanders: 12.1 million doses are needed, 667,278 received (5.56%)
  • 95% of doses have been allocated, deployed, and delivered to vaccinators.
  • All Marylanders age 65+ are now eligible for vaccination in Phase 1.

Vaccine Administration

  • 348,026 first doses administered (75.9%)
  • 208,725 reserved for second doses (23.3% utilized)

CVS & Walgreens

  • Initial clinics completed at all Maryland nursing homes.
  • Beginning Part B to include assisted living.

Local Health Departments

  • 198,562 doses deployed
  • 136,846 administered
  • National Guard support teams assisting with thousands of vaccinations.
  • State officials addressing staffing needs, 825 Medical Reserve Corps members

Hospitals and Health Systems

  • 365,788 doses deployed
  • 190,882 administered
  • Hospitals that have fallen short of 75% utilization will not be prioritized for additional allocation.
  • Hospitals that hold clinics for the public will be prioritized.

New Providers

  • Select Giant, Martin’s, Walmart, Safeway, and Rite Aid locations.
  • Working to stand up mobile clinics to help reach underserved areas.

Mass Vaccination Sites

  • Six Flags America and the Baltimore Convention Center, by February 5th.
  • M&T Bank Stadium when the state can secure higher allocations.
  • Additional regional sites on the Eastern Shore and in Western and Southern Maryland are now being finalized.
  • The state will activate as many members of the National Guard as are needed for this mission.
  • Additional $219 million from FEMA to support Maryland’s COVID-19 emergency vaccination program.
