Governor Hogan recently signed another batch of bills into law following the 2021 Legislative Session. Despite the pandemic, legislators have reiterated to Old Line that this session has been incredibly productive, and the legislation will be impactful.

Bills signed May 18, 2021 include:

  • Legalization of sports betting, including specific measures regarding objectionable bets as requested by Old Line’s client the NFL
  • The Renewable Energy Portfolio Standard (RPS) – Municipal Electric Utilities legislation levels the playing field for small utilities, helping Old Line’s clients by altering energy purchase requirements and providing cost savings for residents
  • The Legal Education Success Collaborative among the University of Baltimore (UB) School of Law, the University of Maryland (UM) School of Law, and Maryland’s historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), designed to increase diversity in the legal field
  • Repealing the state song
  • The Jordan McNair Safe and Fair Play Act, which allows college athletes to profit from the use of their names and likenesses, and adds health and safety requirements for Maryland athletic programs
  • Expanding the availability of alcohol for carryout and delivery
  • Safe School Drinking Water Act
  • Expanding mental and behavioral health training, and eliminating animal adoption fees for veterans
