The 2025 Legislative Session with the Maryland General Assembly is officially underway. The 90-day sprint will cover a variety of bills and topics, as well as a significant budget deficit.
“This upcoming legislative session is not going to be easy,” said House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones. “It’s going to be a really hard session,” according to Senate President Bill Ferguson.
Every year, the budget is a key focus for legislators. This year, lawmakers are facing a $3 billion shortfall, and Governor Wes Moore has stated that he will submit a budget with $2 billion in cuts.
With changes especially in the state Senate, there were multiple new committee assignments. Medicaid, taxes, a new incoming administration, energy, education, housing shortages, and more will be on the docket. Sine Die, the end of the legislative session, is scheduled for 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 7.
Old Line is embedded in Annapolis during session, following legislative agendas, committee meetings and hearings, and connecting with legislators and staff during this critical time.
