Can Manufacturers Institute Teams Up with Old Line to Lobby for Recycling Programs
This year, Old Line Government Affairs has supported the Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) with HB1089 – a bill that would increase the reuse and recycling of beverage containers in an effort to reduce pollution. The bill made substantial headway in the House this year, as Old Line helped move the legislative process along to get a hearing this session, allowing for an opportunity to discuss the details, logistics, and implementation further.
Together with Old Line’s assistance in Maryland, CMI was able to move the yard sticks forward significantly – especially compared to other states that are tackling a similar issue in their legislatures. Coordinating with nonprofits like the Sierra Club and waste management groups, industry leaders and environmentalists are all on the same team – a rare and strong combination.
Looking ahead, the goal will be to get the parties to huddle together over the summer with work group sessions to prepare for next session, building toward future conversations.
