An immigrant from the Dominican Republic, Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk is an “island girl” with a passion for civil rights, equity and advancing her community.

The first from her family to attend college, she understands the importance of education and how education can take people and families across the finish line. “Education is the great equalizer,” she says.

Delegate Peña-Melnyk was elected in 2006, and wants to leave this world better than where she found it. She is married with three children, and is a lawyer, an activist, and a community organizer and volunteer.
